Science and architecture
Yes I will tell you about the pyramids, but first, science and inventions. The Egyptians used rope trusses to stiffen the beam of ships. Egyptian paper, made from papyrus, and pottery was mass produced and exported throughout the Mediterranean basin. The wheel, however, did not arrive until foreign invaders.Papyrus was a neat invention in my opinion, and it`s not that easy to make. It takes a couple of days, what with the drying process, and hammering and whatnot, and it's made from the papyrus reed that grows along the bank of the river Nile.Another branch of Egyptian sciences is Astrology, as well as inventing a calendar. Astrology actually played a big role in architecture. Like many ancient peoples, the Egyptians studied the night sky, taking measurements from the stars to accurately align their pyramids and sun temples with the earth's four cardinal points.Almost all buildings had their sides lined up with the cardinal points(north, east, south, and west). Taking sightings of the Great Bear and Orion with an instrument called a merkhet (similar to an astrolabe), astronomer-priests marked out the foundations of buildings with astonishing accuracy. The Great Pyramid of Giza is a good example. This remarkable building has a footprint of over 13 acres and consists of approximately 6.5 million limestone blocks. Its four sides are accurately aligned to face north, east, south, and west, with an error of less than half a degree. They are also virtually identical in length, with less than a 20 cm (8 inch) variance between one side and another. How the heck did they know to do that?Apart from the pyramids, Egyptian buildings were decorated
with paintings, carved stone images.
The pyramids today still baffle acherologists. They are one big mystery. the buggest myster of all is probably how they were built. There are many theories out there but none of them have been proved. First what they would do, is they would mark in the sand the base for the pyramid. Now, a common misconseption is that the pharaoh forced slaves to build the pyramid, however that is incorect. Ordinary men and farmers vouenteered to bulid the pyramid, because it was considered a great honour to work for rthe Paraoh. They moved huge stone bricks around the base. They kept building up and up untill they reached the top, and they placed a gold or electrum top on. Thsi is one of the things that baffles people. How did ordinary humans carry those giant blocks all the way up the pyramid?Anyway, then they got lime stones an put them over top. The limestone was smoothed in such a way that it gave the pyramid a flat surface. A pyramid is supposed to repersent a stairway up heaven, so that who was buried in it would just climb the pyramid.
Apart from the pyramids, Egyptian buildings were decorated with paintings, carved stone images, heroglyphs and three-dimensional statues. The art tells the story of the pharaohs, the gods, the common people and the natural world of plants, birds and animals. The beauty and grandeur of these sites are beyond compare. How the ancient Egyptians were able to construct these massive structures using primitive tools is still a mystery.
